Painting Tips for Your Portland Home

Remember, everyone starts as a beginner at house painting. Just because you have never painted a house doesn’t mean you shouldn’t give it a try. The money you save by painting your Portland house is money you can put into other home improvements. It can also be a fun thing for the whole family to do.

Now we need to choose the colors we want to paint the house. There is a really cool tool online that you can use. http://www.benjaminmoore.com/wrapper_pcv.asp?L=owner&K=intproj&N=intproj Click let’s paint. Choose exterior or the interior options. Choose the project closest to yours. Get started and you will soon know what color you want to paint your house and you’ll have a vision of what it is going to look like when you’re finished.

Here are some of the basics. Of course the first thing you need to do is wash down the walls of your house. A pressure washer can be rented at almost any rental yard and is the best way to do that. Now go around with a scraper and remove all loose paint and chipped areas. You don’t have to scrape the entire wall, but any areas where the surface is not flat can cause you problems as you paint your house.

Next, figure out your square footage so you can determine the amount of paint you will need to buy. Buy your paint in 5-gallon pails, rather than gallons to save more money.

Talk to the helper at your local paint store and tell him about your project. They can help you decide on how many brushes and rollers and other items you will need. You can buy natural or synthetic bristles for oil based paints, but only use synthetic bristles with latex paint. The same rule applies to rollers. Good rollers can run you around $7, but buy high-quality paintbrushes. A good brush for cutting in around edges will run you about $30.

Make sure you purchased some painter’s tape. It’s blue tape that comes in different widths and is easy to remove without messing up your paint job. That brings us to preparation. Tape off all areas you don’t wish to get this color of paint on. If there are large areas to cover, make sure you pick up some rolls of plastic. You can tape the edges of the plastic down over whatever you need to cover.

Don’t paint out of the paint cans. First reason is that leaving the paint can open will dry out the paint and make it difficult to apply. Another reason is that your brush or roller picks up dirt and foreign objects, which will end up in your paint and may even change the color as you go along.

Do all of your cutting or trimming in before you paint the walls. Use a 4″ brush and with a smooth stroke guide it around the edges where you taped off. Make sure you have plenty of paint on your brush. The biggest mistake people make is trying to stretch the paint too far. Keep drips cleaned up as you go with a small rag. Remember you will be rolling up to the edge of your cut, so don’t worry about that, just make sure you cover the edges well.

Start on the edges of your walls and work your way toward the middle. Most people don’t do this and problems can result. If you start and new can of paint in the middle of the wall and there is any difference in the color at all, it will show up there more than it would on the edges. So with each new can of paint you open, start at the edges first.

Dip your roller in water (for Latex) or solvent (for oil-based paint), before you start. Whether you use a pan or a 5-gallon bucket with a screen, make sure you roll it out a little to make sure it isn’t dripping. You don’t need to go all the way from the top to the bottom as you paint. Do what you can reach.

Apply the paint in a Y or an N pattern, then apply paint in columns up and down smoothing out all the edges or ridges as you go. Again don’t try to stretch the paint out, make sure you have enough paint on your roller to give it a good coat. If you are applying more than one coat, make sure the first coat is completely dry before applying a new coat of paint.
Corners are a difficult part to learn to paint. If you aren’t careful, this is where you will see paint drips later. Get as close to corners as you can, but don’t scrape the roller against the corner. That will cause drips. If you are unsure, have a paintbrush handy to smooth out drips. That is also a good idea overall. Keep a paintbrush ready for taking care of any drips or ridges you leave behind. Doing this as you go is much easier than trying to fix it after it’s dry or partially dry.

Using tray liners for your paint trays will save you a lot of time at cleanup. Soak your brushes when done for awhile and they will also be easier to clean. For water based paint, soak in water and for oil based paint soak them in solvent.

I hope some of these tips have been helpful to you for your house painting. Have confidence that you can do this job yourself. You will appreciate and enjoy it much more knowing that you or you and your family completed the job rather than hiring someone else to do it.

Your house is your lifetime asset. And it's a matter of time when you take a notice that your house needs renovation - not because it's getting old, but because you feel the need of vibrant colors in your house.

Repainting your house is a tricky business. Some rely on painting companies to do the job for you. Hiring the house painting service may also cost you. But if you are planning to paint it yourself, you might want to consider the basics; and consider the time and effort you will put on painting your house.

PAINT

There are many types of paint available today, some giving different surface finishes, others are designed for a particular application. Choosing the correct paint type may appear to be confusing at first, but once you have projected which theme you would like to paint your house and sorted out which job and what finishes you want, the choice is rather easy.

There are two bases of paint for your house: solvent-based (oil or alkyd) and water-based (latex). Oil-based paints dry slow - usually taking up to 24 hours. The best clean up for an oil-based paint is turpentine or paint thinner. Latex paints' advantage is that it dries relatively fast, but it is not desirable in hot weather or direct sunshine. The best clean up for latex paints requires just soap and water. So if you are painting the inside of your house, it is recommended to use water-based paints, while solvent-based paints are suggested for painting the exterior of your house.

There are different types of paints that is either water-based or solvent-based that produces different finishes that is measured by its sheen factor. "Sheen" is a term used to describe the degree of light reflection the paint has. Lesser sheen for an interior or exterior paint means it has lesser stain resistance.

· A Gloss paint is easy to clean and resists scuffs better. This is ideal for rooms that are constantly used. Most gloss paints are best recommended to use on woodworks, baseboards, kitchen and bathroom walls, doorjambs, and window casings. The downside of using gloss paints, however, is the noticeable imperfections in the wall surface.

· A High-gloss paint is highly reflective and works well for highlighting details, such as trim and decorative molding. They are also the best choice for doors and cabinet - or any area that sees a high volume of abuse.

· Semi-gloss paints are very similar to gloss plaints except it has lesser sheen. Semi-gloss is also suitable for rooms with high humidity (best used for children's room) and can be used for trim works and casings. These paints ensure maximum durability.

· Eggshell paints provide a smooth and low-sheen finish. Paints that are smooth and low-sheen that is ideal for your living rooms, dining rooms, bedrooms, and dens. It is washable and ideal for bedrooms, hallways, home offices and family rooms.

· Satin paints offer a good combination of easy-clean and moderate sheen. These paints go a step above eggshell in scrubbing ability. They perform and look great in just about any room.

· Flat paints (matte paints) are non-reflective and always a good choice for large walls and ceilings. Flat paints hides imperfections on wall surfaces and spatters well during application. Flat paints are the best choice for vinyl and aluminum siding that is scratched or dented because it hides imperfections and spatters less when applied. These paints are ideal for low-traffic areas such as formal dining rooms and master bedrooms.

· Each states in the U.S. or every community/ county differs on paint can disposal methods. Check your local environmental, health, and safety laws.

EXTERIOR PAINTING

In buying paints that you are going to use for your exterior house, you have to pick a brand that has essential characteristics: hiding power, color retention, chalk-resistance, and blister resistance.

Hiding power comes from the paint's pigment and is affected by the manner and thickness of the application. Color retention is the ability to maintain its original color during exposure to sunlight, etc. Chalking resistance prevents the white chalky powder from forming on the surface and lightening the color of the paint. Chalking occur over a period of time. Blister resistance keeps excessive moisture from coming through the substrate and affecting the paint layer. Tip: if paint is applied over a damp or wet surface, blistering is imminent.

Painting the exterior of your house requires a thorough estimation, visualization and preparation. When you have chosen your theme for your rooms and have bought the job materials you need.

You will need any of these tools in painting your exterior: caulk, sandpaper, rags and/or paper towels, painter's tape, garden hose, power washer, or hose brush attachment, sponges & buckets for wash water, spray nozzle, stepladder, extension ladder, paint scraper, wire brush, putty knives, heat gun, rotary paint removing tool and electric drill, caulk gun, sanding block, and work gloves.

When you have all the tools at hand, examine your exterior. You might find exterior painting problems, which could be any of the following: alligatoring, blistering, chalking, chalk run down, crackling, dirt pickup, efflorescence, fading, frosting, lapping, mildew, nail head rusting, paint incompatibility, peeling, poor alkali resistance, poor adhesion, poor gloss retention, surfacent leaching, staining, vinyl siding wrap, wax bleed, or wrinkling.

If you already know what your house exterior's problem is or just for repainting it, simply follow some of these tips. You can also refer to INTERIOR PAINTING for brush or roller strokes, etc.:

· Start by thoroughly cleaning the outside of your home. Start at the top and work your way down the sides of the house. If your siding has areas of mold, mildew or discoloration, wash it with an anti-fungal cleaner.

· Mask off areas that are not to be painted. You may want to place masking tape along the edge of house trim, and around window and door frames and trim, since this is likely to be painted in a different color or with a higher sheen paint. You can also tape newspaper or plastic drop cloth material over windows and doors, including sliding glass doors, to protect them from drips.

· Place plastic drop cloths over plants and shrubs, or where paint may drip on porches, roof sections, sidewalks, driveways or other surfaces.

House painting takes time, house painting costs a big chunk on your budget, but the end-result is always great.

House Paint - which ones are the best to use? Are you starting your own painting or home improvement business and you need to decide which type of house paint to use? Here are 4 important tips about choosing paints you might want to know more about.

These Tips Will Help As A Guideline For Which Paints To Use...

1. A Good Brand Name - Using a name brand paint that is welcomed in any of the finer homes is important. If you think that people don't care about what kind of paint you use in or on their home, think again. Customers do notice brands.

And since the customer that you are painting for is paying for all that labor and materials they will want you to use the best paint available on the market. In my area Benjamin Moore is a trusted name that is welcome in any home.

Now Benjamin Moore has different levels of quality just as all the other paint manufacturers do, so I am talking about using their premium grade of interior and exterior paints when doing custom painting in peoples homes.

Getting to know your paints, primers and enamels is important. For example, now days with oil base coatings being as they are V.O.C. wise, I know which enamels are the best and easiest to use when I need a solvent-based paint.

I also know which enamels I like or that perform best for me when it comes to latex coatings. The same thing goes for wall and ceiling paint. I know what I like best to use and which products give me the least trouble or which ones make the job the easiest.

This all comes through using various products on our jobs. For example, once I find a flat ceiling or wall paint that I like best I tend to stay with it as much as possible. If it cuts in good and leaves a nice, smooth, even surface appearance I will use it a lot.

Benefits Of House Painting You Never Knew Existed

Painting Vinyl Siding - Hi everybody.

This is Mark with Discover Your Home.

Thank you for joining us.

This is our second week of live streaming, and please share with your friends or family.

Let’s talk a little bit about trends ofthings that are going on in the marketplace, what we see when we are out in the field andworking with customers.

One of the big trends on the exterior of homesare painting aluminium and vinyl siding, more specifically we are going to talk about paintingvinyl siding.

One of the big questions that I get askedis, “Hey can I paint my vinyl siding, it’s been up there 10 years, it’s faded and Inever liked the color.

” Usually those are the first couple of reasonsI asked folks is: Number one: Why do you want to paint your vinyl siding? Ok, if you want it done just make sure youare doing it for the right reason and the reason you know that it makes sense.

Usually folks tell me I hate the color ofmy house and I want to change the look of it.

Cool, I get that, no problem.

The second reason is that it’s faded, it’schalking and yes, vinyl siding does fade and it does chalk.

They may tell you that it’s maintenancefree, but it’s not fade-free.

Let’s just leave it at that.

So it will start to break down, any surfaceeven, stop and think about this ok.

Your automobile ok, one of the finest finishesout there is a car finish.

It is sprayed on, it’s heavy, and it’sthe latest technology so, It’s pretty good, so you are looking at a car 10 years downthe road and it doesn’t have that luster or the color that it was when it was brandspanking new, so your siding color is going to wear too.

How do we handle this? Let’s start with the basics, let’s getthe outside cleaned up.

First and foremost whether it’s yourselfor you are hiring a contractor to pressure wash the outside, let’s get the outsidegood and clean.

Put a mild detergent or possibly if you arehaving mold and mildew issues, something like a combination of a product called Jomax orbleach, there again read the directions, ok apply it on there, spray it on and a lot oftimes it will make the mold and mildew disappear but it does need to be agitated a little bit.

So use the correct pressure, use the correcttip, a lot of times we find that folks go out and find this brand new pressure washerand they use the wrong tip and they can almost carve their name in their siding that is kindof what I’ve seen over the years.

Take your time; let’s make good decisionswhile we are out there so hopefully these are things that can help you.

If there is something here that you are notreal sure of, please reach out to us, ask us some questions.

If we can help you, we would love to helpyou.

Now we got this clean around there and wegot it all washed off and everything and let it dry.

Now what I kind of guide folks in how, whatcolor are we going to put on there.

So we got let’s say a real light color onthere now, I’m going to recommend always stay in a kind of similar family of colors.

Let’s just say you go from white to black.

Most people don’t paint their houses blackbut if you go from white to black, The difference of how your siding expandsand contracts will differ from black paint and white paint just because darker colorsattract more heat and light than lighter colors do.

Let’s make sure we want to paint somethingssimilar, not too dramatic because that siding will expand and contract a bit different soyou could have some buckling issues.

I’m not saying you are going to but thereis always that possibility that you could.

Ok so we go ahead and we make it clean.

Let’s make sure we make a good decisionin color, I always recommend if you are going to put a color on, try to use your roof asa good marker on what you want to go with because a lot of times there are some tonesin your roof that you can find work real well with siding paints.

After we are going to go ahead and get itall cleaned up.

I want to tell you out there especially onyour North side of your home you are going to find, algae is going to show up a littlebit more so than on any other side of the house.

Obviously because moisture sits, so goingback to the cleaning stage, let’s make sure we get that cleaned up.

So going back to paint now, it’s all clean, let’s try to find a good color, there again work with your local representative at BenjaminMoore, Sherwin Williams, Glidden dealer, you know get some ideas, drive around the neighborhood.

I always tell my customers hey, drive aroundand see what you like.

Make sure if you are looking at the neighbor’shouse that the neighbor down the street has a similar roof as you do, and the window trimand the door trim so that you can kind of coordinate everything.

After we got it all cleaned, make sure weput a primer on there We can use a bonding primer; we don’t haveto but let’s make sure we put a bonding primer and then two good coats of a high qualitylatex paint to get everything nice and tight.

Always work on the shaded side and be patient.

Work top to bottom, left to right.

We keep it simple.

Hopefully this will answer some of the questionsfor you, if there is anyone out there that can really have any more questions or if wecould be of help to you, please reach out to us.

Again I’m Mark and this is Discover Your Home.

Have a good evening.

Professional Painting in Oak Grove – Trusted Experts

It's always a blessing to have a beautiful home. It's a gift which no one can steal away from you. It's your place and you belong to it. Every curtain and couch knows you in and out. The way your house take care of you, won't you like to pay back in some way. Painting it all new can be a good option. Home Painting services can cost you a bit but it's always better to invest for your peace. If the budget don't fit in we have seven easy steps on how to paint your house on your own. Mind you.. paint it like a pro.. Just like Home painting services do it.

1. Understand your space: Always study the space you want to paint. If walls are wide, how much light comes in during the day, what furniture will exactly be adjacent to wall and so on. When you exactly know what you end goal is, you can work upon it accordingly. Even a single mistake in choosing the shade may ruin your entire effort. Bright colours look great on small walls, but we recommend lighter shade for big houses. Remember home painting needs a lot of creativity and planning.

2. Get your geometry lessons right: Calculate the exact length of the wall you want to paint. This will determine the amount of paint you require. Buy or borrow a metering tape and get the exact calculations down. This will not only help you decide on shade but also the time you require to complete your work. So brush up your geometry lessons and calculate the exact area you are about to rejuvenate. Home Painting is not only creative, but it has maths as well involved in it.

7. The work map: Start with the easiest of the task when doing house paint on your own. Once you gain confidence with brush you can then try at the difficult task. Remember get your basics right first once you are there can try at the difficult parts. Open up windows when you paint so that the odor does not suffocate you. Clean the premise and dispose of the used material. Just note that few of the equipment are reusable or even re sell able for that matter.

This is what we suggest if you decide to paint the walls on your own. Always remember to consult the people who share the space with you. Home belongs to each member of family. They should have a say too. Use old clothes while working as them are most likely to get damaged. Process like pressure washing is not recommended for non professionals. They can be hazardous if done without supervision. We recommend any alternate method apart from pressure washing to clean your walls. Now when the momentum is set go ahead and start your task. More over don't forget to treat your team once the work is completed.

hi everyone this is Sarah Fezio and I am doing this video and because i have received some comments from some viewers that are asking about cell with paint and water and then so the title of the video was paint and water only they're like 100 well yeah I did but the thing is I feel like primarily it's paint and water I used water that's in the paint not the G 8800 the GHC 800 is an additive to help reduce crazing maybe in the last few videos that I put out I had two quarts of paint maybe there were a few tablespoons of ghd 800 not enough to impact it and then someone asked about putting pouring medium with the pigment powder well you have to have something in your pigment powder ok you can't just put the powder in there by itself you can probably blow it on top of it that might be something that I try eventually but you have to have some sort of fluid to put the pigment powder in ok so then there were questions I've used peavey a PVA is polyvinyl something or another basically wood glue or Elmer's glue that has vinyl in it ok vinyl is not as long lasting as a hundred percent acrylic tank ok now I have an alternative to that that i'm not using today but this particular poor is for people that want to do paint and water only and create cells now does it happen every single time no do i think it will happen this time yes and let me you I have to do with the fact that i'm using acrylic health paint that has primer bits built into it which has resin acrylic resin and pumice is the are the ingredients in the house paint i'm using glidden diamond and fresh tangerines and in tan suede now once you start doing several pores with these materials you begin to realize which paints on what are more likely to create fell and that has to do with the density of the pigment that's in it I know fresh tangerine cells I know that's what it will do i know that bright aqua green will create cell the only thing I'm concerned about is that I don't have I don't want to use another health paint I want to have two and two so I didn't use white health paint I used a tan suede tan suede gloves because I wanted that color instead now this over here is artist's loft raw umber and you can see the thickness ok this is what pretty much what that paint looks like without sending it with water do I need to add pouring medium to this no I don't do i need to add any PVA glue or anything else no i don't why because it's thick enough already that all i need to do is add water and thin it the only time you have to use pouring medium is when you need to thicken something ok like a pigment powder or if you're using an acrylic ink or a fluid acrylic or a high-flow acrylic this is way too thin okay this is way too thin to be put in like a dirty pork up that's not going to work you have to thicken this when you use something like this you need to use a pouring medium whether you choose to use PVA glue or float all or pouring medium or golden acrylic polymer or whatever you choose to do you have to thicken this up okay same thing with the pigment powder you have to add something to that when you're using health paint or you're using paint in the tube you do not have to add any other medium to it okay that's like when I did the golden and acrylic polymer i use the ink I mean the high flow and the fluid by golden I didn't use like paint in a tube theoretically I could use let's say theoretically if I wanted green I could take a heavy body paint add water to it very slowly and thin it down the problem is well there's a lot of pigment in it there's more pigment in this because it's a professional-grade paint but the problem is it takes a lot of paint okay a lot of paint this is only two ounces well that's like everything I put in this cup over here the bright aqua green except this one cost three times as much okay I'm not exactly sure of this particular one but these costs more like ten dollars and I can get this for 250 or three dollars is there a difference in the quality of the pigment yes the student grade paints like artist loft or liquitex basics will dry darker it's not saying the others won't but there's more likely to be a color shift when you use a student a tight is there a color shift in the health paint like does it dry a different color no it doesn't that's why I'm not so anyhow that's why I'm not adding anything to this could I add GI c800 like a squirt yes what will that do it will prevent the paint from crazing because no one wants but do I consider it a poor with Gaz 800 no I would not add this to nine parts of gac 800 because there's no need to this paint and the acrylic polymers in it and the structure of this paint is already the consistency where you can just water it down and why do i add g8 800 to prevent crazy because i don't want to do a painting and have a big rip in the paint and down the middle of it and then I spent all my time and my money and my materials and my painting is really ok I don't want that to happen but for this experiment I'm not going to add any so I have my bright aqua green by liquitex basics I have my raw umber by artist loft I'm going to set these two sides I have my to health paint now this is glidden that's the consistency without adding any water yes it's all very nicely off meisterstuck but I still want to thin it just a tad another word of caution if you you if you do a very large painting like I did the 24 m but in the 24 by 24 and the 24 x 36 in one night in a room that's 12 x maybe 20 it says use in a ventilated room in other words if you painted your wall with the house paint and you slept in the wet paint room that would not be good for you because there are fumes there's not very many but people can also be allergic to it and after three hours of working with those paintings in this room it was it was giving me a headache it was also one in the morning I hadn't eaten I had gone to see my stepmom who was ill in the hot in the hospital and so I was not feeling very well and I ended up opening my windows and turning my air conditioner on all the cold air goes out the hot air goes in and I got circulation in my apartment okay so here is my fresh tangerine that's the consistency and my tan suede gloves am i adding any mediums to this at all besides water no I'm not my purpose is to show how you can use paint and water to make cells why do i think i can make so i have to do with the fact that there's other materials inside this health paint inside this house paint that react differently with the artist's loft paint and the liquitex basics paint the glidden diamond has a hundred percent guarantee there's going to be a video coming out about bear paints and I'm sorry that the 24 x 36 took so long to release but we had testing at school this week and last week and I'm the testing coordinator so I was a little bit busy and I haven't been able to even check my phone as much as I'd like so here is the tan suede so my canvas is 11 x 14 i'm going to set these to the side i'm going to get another cup to pour from i'm going to double it so I don't crush the cup and to put on some gloves so I hope it was perfectly clear you only have to use pouring medium you can use it if you want but I would not suggest adding these student let these paints or too thick really to add to the pouring medium you're going to have to add water and when you begin adding water to the pouring medium it can craze so if you do it that way you want to add GAC 100 I know liquid text says it's not supposed to crazy but the only painting I did that crazed was just inks and pouring medium just the unit and this hopefully will not be too messy because this is my last pair of gloves whoo I guess I'll be stopping at walmart so i have my four colors you check the camera make sure you guys can see everything you can see pretty well alright so i have to health tanks to student level tank okay i'm going to put this is going to act as my wife might aunt is going to act as my wife i'm going to put some in the bottom didn't add any silicone didn't add any dimethicone I didn't add anything that's a house paint the next color I want to put is going to be the liquitex basics health paint artist paint artist paint needs to be a little bit thinner okay here's my consistency you should be able to see that from the five pouring from pretty high up a foot up ok now I'm going to put some more tan in so I have health paint liquitex health paint brown artist's loft raw umber more house paint a little more water to my fresh tangerines that's the orange color and you can see cells already starting to form now the key is to get them on the canvas and not pour them off okay what else do I have here and I have plenty of paint to cover this there's going to be so much pain it's not even going to be funny and maybe I'll just set these to the side and I'll go ahead and do a dirty poor so here's my paint you can see on the side okay hopefully you can see inside the cup hopefully oops there's lots of cells in the cup already I didn't add anything but health paint and water okay i'm going to turn I'm trying to look inside the cup and I have a little i have paint left I'm not worried about having paint left and that's my extra coat I don't want to waste that I'm running out of Cup Oh hold on I hope the camera was not going in and out of focus because i had forgot to fix that I'm so sorry turning autofocus off sorry and I'm going to lift my cup and you can see all my cells right there you have to know your paint you have to know your paint okay that's that's the best thing I can tell you know your paint know how it reacts but now I'm slightly concerned about what crackin and crazing because i did not add anything to prevent that and I want a little more turquoise down here so I'm just going to put some turquoise in there in the dirty pork up I don't want to tilt it too much it's going to run off or it's just going to fly across the room oops that accident I hope that doesn't turn to brown let's see what we get here okay I don't really like that but I'm going to I'm going to tilt it just a little bit more it's okay did I spend a lot of time and effort into this painting no I did not I'm covering the sides making sure I have paint where I need it because I am going to go up and see my stepmom in a little bit okay so I have orange cells i also have cells over here there were brown cells there were other cells in here that ended up getting poured off do i really like this no i don't really like this over here I don't want to keep that that's too much blue so it just needs to look a little bit different I don't care this is just the example that looks a little bit better at least it's a little bit more mixed together so I have orange cells all in here that's kind of like lacing these are orange self these are nice orange cells these are really nice orange cells notice that's with the blue and then the deserts and lots of little cells over here and these are really large cells and that's because i tilted it okay so what I'm going to do now is I'm going to turn off the auto focus and I'm going to lift the camera up so you can see am I worried about this over here no not really it's okay and I'm having to do this left-handed because I don't have any other gloves and okay so I know the camera may go in and out of focus for a minute but i'm just going to show you what we got so can you see the orange cells there when the camera is the color shifts the orange cells down here these are cells there's lots of what looks like cells are lacing in here in this section I don't know if you can see down here nice cells those are all cells right there oh yeah you can see that up here you can see better I'm trying not to tilt the canvas either okay there are other color cells there's orange but there's also some brown type stuff in there nothing over here and the other poor without the orange what does that tell me that that orange cells really nicely do you want orange and every single painting not necessarily but guess what once you find paints that you know will fell up very well keep that in mind okay and maybe I'm just going to leave it i'm just going to turn it real quick so i can see that there's anything over here that needs to be covered with paint and yes there's just a little bit right here sorry for my head in the way i'm going to take it up now i'm going to take some pictures i'm going to post some pictures and i'm going to work on saving this there won't be any editing because i know that people are wondering about this i'll post dry pictures on my facebook artist page Sarah physiol artist I hope if you have any questions on how to use pouring medium one to use pouring medium what the GAC 800 is for please put those in the comments below or you can message me on Facebook Sarah physio artist and I will answer your questions as soon as I'm able to I should be able to use my phone during the day starting tomorrow and I'd be happy to answer your questions or give you any tips or pointers so I hope you enjoyed this video if you did give me a thumbs up share this with other people so that they know how to do this and kind of the reason why it works like it does and i honestly believe it has to do with the health paint and the artists paint and the ingredients in the health paint that make up the primer and i also am going to have a video coming out about their health paint that's already filmed and I got to talk to their representative that will probably be coming out friday i also have the video about Matisse acrylic what was it called Matisse acrylic painting medium that we can discuss and I have another video coming up about another medium you can use why would you use that medium this for everyone that wants to do these very running very thin a okay a craft paint is too thin to do this method with okay a crap paint you'll probably have to thicken this kind of paint fluid you would have to add a crop you would have to add something to it so basically when you put your paint or your pigment in a cup if it's not the right consistency you may have to thicken it or you may have to thin it you can send it with water but you need a medium like a pouring medium by liquitex a golden acrylic polymer medium by golden to thicken things ok so you want them all to be kind of the same consistency and even as I'm looking at this it's growing on me so what I'm going to do is I'm going to end this video thank you guys for watching thank you for clicking on my ads I really appreciate it and comment suggestions questions below and I hope everyone has a good evening lots of love bye.

Interior House Painting Estimates

local exterior house painters Here's the secret on how to estimate a painting job, slow down and pay attention to detail. Seriously, everybody loses when an estimate is not done carefully. When I do an estimate, I try to imagine in my mind, actually doing the paint job. For example, is it easier or more difficult to bring all the tools into the house? Are there pets or children to contend with? Are the walls dirty? Are there a lot of nail pops? Basically, what are the conditions before painting? How much time will it take to get the area ready to go on?Protection, what is needed? What needs to be removed prior to starting? What about switch plates, lighting, pianos, grandfather clocks or anything that is expensive and will require special handling. If you think that is overkill just wait until one of your painters scratches a piano and you have to get its expensive lacquer finish redone. Again how much time to move and protect? Preparations, how much time will it take to spackle, sand, and prime or spot prime prior to painting? Next, measure the room, width then length. Then multiply the width times the length. That will give you the square feet of the ceiling. How much time does it take to paint a ceiling of this square footage?Second, measure the height, then multiply the width times two, then multiply the length times two, finally take that total and multiply times the height of the walls. This will give you the square footage of the walls. Now how much time does it take for your crew to paint walls of this square footage?Third, back up, the baseboard lineal footage is 2 times length plus two times the width. How much time does it take for your crew to paint baseboards?Count doors, windows, shelving and any other single item such as crown molding, chair rail, etc. Add them up individually and multiply times the amount of time your crew takes to paint these items. Are you all done measuring for painting? Great, now replace those things you removed prior to painting. Add up the time it would take.Cleanup, figure the time it will take to remove drops and ladders etc. Now compute how much time to vacuum, wipe down etc. Put everything back into the truck, how much time did that take? Finally, add all these times up and multiply by the hourly rate that you have calculated to be what you need to make money, and you are done.

Professional Painting in Marylhurst – Trusted Experts

hi everyone this is Sarah Fezio and I am doing this video and because i have received some comments from some viewers that are asking about cell with paint and water and then so the title of the video was paint and water only they're like 100 well yeah I did but the thing is I feel like primarily it's paint and water I used water that's in the paint not the G 8800 the GHC 800 is an additive to help reduce crazing maybe in the last few videos that I put out I had two quarts of paint maybe there were a few tablespoons of ghd 800 not enough to impact it and then someone asked about putting pouring medium with the pigment powder well you have to have something in your pigment powder ok you can't just put the powder in there by itself you can probably blow it on top of it that might be something that I try eventually but you have to have some sort of fluid to put the pigment powder in ok so then there were questions I've used peavey a PVA is polyvinyl something or another basically wood glue or Elmer's glue that has vinyl in it ok vinyl is not as long lasting as a hundred percent acrylic tank ok now I have an alternative to that that i'm not using today but this particular poor is for people that want to do paint and water only and create cells now does it happen every single time no do i think it will happen this time yes and let me you I have to do with the fact that i'm using acrylic health paint that has primer bits built into it which has resin acrylic resin and pumice is the are the ingredients in the house paint i'm using glidden diamond and fresh tangerines and in tan suede now once you start doing several pores with these materials you begin to realize which paints on what are more likely to create fell and that has to do with the density of the pigment that's in it I know fresh tangerine cells I know that's what it will do i know that bright aqua green will create cell the only thing I'm concerned about is that I don't have I don't want to use another health paint I want to have two and two so I didn't use white health paint I used a tan suede tan suede gloves because I wanted that color instead now this over here is artist's loft raw umber and you can see the thickness ok this is what pretty much what that paint looks like without sending it with water do I need to add pouring medium to this no I don't do i need to add any PVA glue or anything else no i don't why because it's thick enough already that all i need to do is add water and thin it the only time you have to use pouring medium is when you need to thicken something ok like a pigment powder or if you're using an acrylic ink or a fluid acrylic or a high-flow acrylic this is way too thin okay this is way too thin to be put in like a dirty pork up that's not going to work you have to thicken this when you use something like this you need to use a pouring medium whether you choose to use PVA glue or float all or pouring medium or golden acrylic polymer or whatever you choose to do you have to thicken this up okay same thing with the pigment powder you have to add something to that when you're using health paint or you're using paint in the tube you do not have to add any other medium to it okay that's like when I did the golden and acrylic polymer i use the ink I mean the high flow and the fluid by golden I didn't use like paint in a tube theoretically I could use let's say theoretically if I wanted green I could take a heavy body paint add water to it very slowly and thin it down the problem is well there's a lot of pigment in it there's more pigment in this because it's a professional-grade paint but the problem is it takes a lot of paint okay a lot of paint this is only two ounces well that's like everything I put in this cup over here the bright aqua green except this one cost three times as much okay I'm not exactly sure of this particular one but these costs more like ten dollars and I can get this for 250 or three dollars is there a difference in the quality of the pigment yes the student grade paints like artist loft or liquitex basics will dry darker it's not saying the others won't but there's more likely to be a color shift when you use a student a tight is there a color shift in the health paint like does it dry a different color no it doesn't that's why I'm not so anyhow that's why I'm not adding anything to this could I add GI c800 like a squirt yes what will that do it will prevent the paint from crazing because no one wants but do I consider it a poor with Gaz 800 no I would not add this to nine parts of gac 800 because there's no need to this paint and the acrylic polymers in it and the structure of this paint is already the consistency where you can just water it down and why do i add g8 800 to prevent crazy because i don't want to do a painting and have a big rip in the paint and down the middle of it and then I spent all my time and my money and my materials and my painting is really ok I don't want that to happen but for this experiment I'm not going to add any so I have my bright aqua green by liquitex basics I have my raw umber by artist loft I'm going to set these two sides I have my to health paint now this is glidden that's the consistency without adding any water yes it's all very nicely off meisterstuck but I still want to thin it just a tad another word of caution if you you if you do a very large painting like I did the 24 m but in the 24 by 24 and the 24 x 36 in one night in a room that's 12 x maybe 20 it says use in a ventilated room in other words if you painted your wall with the house paint and you slept in the wet paint room that would not be good for you because there are fumes there's not very many but people can also be allergic to it and after three hours of working with those paintings in this room it was it was giving me a headache it was also one in the morning I hadn't eaten I had gone to see my stepmom who was ill in the hot in the hospital and so I was not feeling very well and I ended up opening my windows and turning my air conditioner on all the cold air goes out the hot air goes in and I got circulation in my apartment okay so here is my fresh tangerine that's the consistency and my tan suede gloves am i adding any mediums to this at all besides water no I'm not my purpose is to show how you can use paint and water to make cells why do i think i can make so i have to do with the fact that there's other materials inside this health paint inside this house paint that react differently with the artist's loft paint and the liquitex basics paint the glidden diamond has a hundred percent guarantee there's going to be a video coming out about bear paints and I'm sorry that the 24 x 36 took so long to release but we had testing at school this week and last week and I'm the testing coordinator so I was a little bit busy and I haven't been able to even check my phone as much as I'd like so here is the tan suede so my canvas is 11 x 14 i'm going to set these to the side i'm going to get another cup to pour from i'm going to double it so I don't crush the cup and to put on some gloves so I hope it was perfectly clear you only have to use pouring medium you can use it if you want but I would not suggest adding these student let these paints or too thick really to add to the pouring medium you're going to have to add water House Painters: What To Look For In A Company

quality house painting

Owning a home comes with many added responsibilities, like painting the exterior of your house. When looking for exterior house painting ideas, people often push one in the direction of a few dusty shades such as beiges and grays which are often safe but dull options.

However, these dull shades rarely make a house become the eye catcher of the street. Selecting bold and striking colors that when included in the correct house painting scheme can make your house stand out and look stunning.

Here are a few bold house paint colours that are worth a try,

Red

Usually used to bring interest to the interior of the house, Red is a stunning exterior house painting color. A deep rose red also is very fitting as an accent in exterior house painting, it goes really well with shades of beige and stone bricked walls.

Black

Black is a bold color that is usually restricted to trims, doors, and highlights. However, black is a great option for painting modern houses or even classic homes.

Painting houses are not as simple as choosing a paint color for walls. These are larger surfaces which need more than one shade of the color, and more than three colors to stand out. However, one must choose colors that can stand the direct sunlight and yet not look too overwhelming and repulsive to onlookers.

One can opt to take advice from professionals and online software to get a glimpse of how the chosen colors will look on the outside walls.

The square foot method of estimating a paint job is probably the dumbest way to estimate a paint job. Sorry, I am wrong; it is the second dumbest job. It just seems like the dumbest method. The winner of the dumbest job goes to the W.A.G. (wild-ass guess) Method of Estimating a Paint Job. Out of the basic three methods of how to estimate a paint job, the W.A.G. Method of Estimating a Paint Job, is the creation of the magician of the paint estimators. This painting contractor can look at a $15,000 paint job and in 5 seconds give a very inaccurate price on painting the interior of a house. This magician love to bask in the glory when homeowners the world over tell this paint estimator that he is simply fabulous. Anyway, the W.A.G. method isn't even worth spit. The Square Foot Method warrants acknowledgment, if for no other reason than to point out that although a great many painters subscribe to this method, it really is quite a stupid way to arrive at a price for a paint job. Why is this a lame way to estimate? The question is how can anyone estimate a price of a paint job by the square footage of a floor? A couple of simple examples will shine some light on the darkness of this method. Let's take two interior paint jobs; the first one is a family room 200 square feet built in the 1950's so it has an eight foot high ceiling. The doors are the style that was popular in residential construction back then, flush doors. The windows are also a style that was popular back then, standard size but four divided windows commonly called two over two, or 2/2. All the molding is of the style popular in the 1950's also, a pattern called ranch or clamshell molding, a simple smooth slightly curved molding. The molding consists of baseboard, door trim and window trim. There are two flush doors and four windows in this room. The second room was built in the 1980's, also 200 square feet. This room has an eighteen foot high ceiling. The doors are reflective of the decade that his room was built in, three panel doors, and six wooden French Doors; the four windows are a true twelve individual pane widow commonly called a six over six or 6/6. This room has a very deep profile colonial trim. The molding is baseboard, chair rail, crown molding, door trim and window trim. Don't forget this room has six doors and four windows. If someone estimates these rooms using the square foot method, they will arrive at the same price because both rooms have exactly the same square footage of floor. But you will see that the latter room has more than double the square footage of wall, and that both the ceiling and the extra square footage of wall are at twice the height of the first room, entailing much longer times to paint these areas. Also the time to paint a French Door is double the time to paint a flush door, and the second room has six doors while the first has two. The windows on the second job being 6/6 vs. 2/2 also take twice as long to paint. The second room has three times the molding as the first room and the crown molding is eighteen feet off the ground, meaning two times as long to paint than molding at arm's length. Obviously, estimating a room by the square footage of floor is a very inaccurate method of estimating an interior paint job. outside house painters

Professional Painting in Happy Valley – Trusted Experts

There are home owners who perform house painting jobs in order to save money. There are also other homeowners who think the job will be more efficiently done by experts in home painting and hire professional house painters.

The chief task of these professionals is to apply paint on the various surfaces of the home. Yet there are more involved in this profession than just paint application. First, they need to provide their clients with the painting service quotation. This quote has to be printed or written neatly to clearly show not just the total amount which a client needs to pay. This accurate quote of the painting services must also include the scope of the job, the duration by which the painting tasks are expected to be completed, the type and the amount of paint and other materials to be used. A number of homeowners gather various quotations from at least 2 or 3 house painters. Some homeowners choose man for the job based on the most affordable services while others choose those who can provide the best quality of house painting.

Once an arrangement with the client is finalized, the house painter should then purchase the painting supplies for the job. The enlisted brand, right color and the appropriate amount of paint must be bought. Depending on what shade or colors the homeowner wants, this shall be prepared and mixed by the painter or by the paint retailer. There are also other painting supplies which he needs to prepare such as the paint primer, paint brushes, rollers and sprayers. If there are certain techniques or effects that the homeowner requires, the house painter must also prepare the appropriate materials for the job such as sponges or masking tapes.

Depending on what type of paint is to be used, he should know which tools will help him in efficiently performing his job. Suppose the paint to be used is oil-based, he should know that this paint may be best applied using a paint roller. If latex paint is to be used, he should use a paint sprayer to apply the coatings.

When all the materials are ready, the house painting professional then proceeds with his duties. Yet before the paint may be applied to the house, there are some surface preparations which he should do to guarantee an excellent painting job. Some walls need to be stripped off its wallpaper or old paint. There are surfaces covered with grime or dust that has to be vacuumed or wiped first. In order to achieve a uniform and smooth painted house, the surface must first be properly sanded by the house painter. The size and layout of the walls as well as the colors of paint required would all help the house painter to determine which painting technique will work best for the job. The house painter should also ensure that he paints only the surfaces that need to be painted. At all costs, the painter should avoid the paint from furniture, carpet, trees, plants, flowers or shrubs.

Exterior Painting to Sell Your Home

home painting business

If you are someone that likes to input creativity in your projects and break away from the norm, you have likely encountered obstacles along the way. Many people expect others to conform to the norm and therefore try to inhibit the actions of others that sway too far from what is considered the norm in their area.

These conflicts can even arise with a house painting. Many home owners that paint their homes in bold colors are faced with less than happy neighbors who feel that the house painting color is a distraction.

If your neighborhood does not have a home owners association with rules regarding exterior home painting colors, that probably means that you are free to paint your home whatever exterior home painting color you would like. Despite the protests of some neighbors, at the end of the day, it is your home so you can choose whichever house painting color that makes you happy. Of course, you probably do not like to have conflicts with your neighbors because after all, you do live next to them and likely see them on a regular basis so you will probably want to weight the pros and cons before choosing an exterior home painting color that could cause neighborly protests. When weighing the positives and negatives in a house painting color, try discussing the options with a neighbor if you think they may dislike what you have chosen. This is completely up to you however, because it is ultimately your choice, just as it is their choice on which color to choose for their house painting.

Maaco paint prices can range from a couple hundred dollars to almost a thousand dollars. However, the average prices stick around $300 dollars, but will depend on what type of vehicle you have. Obviously the larger the vehicle, the more paint is needed to cover it; therefore the price will be higher. While I was researching Maaco, I did notice the average prices to get a vehicle painted in the market are typically around $1,000 dollars. So getting a car painted for only $300 dollars is a great deal.

Maaco paint is known for its cheaper quality of paint. Consumers who have received a Maaco paint job have complained about the paint chipping and peeling off more frequently then the competitors of Maaco paint. I however think you pay for what you get. If you have an older automobile and want a little bit of a touch up or if you plan on selling your car and not caring about investing a large amount of money, then Maaco paint is an ideal choice for you. If you have a brand new car in awesome condition, and need a paint job, then I would most likely vote against getting a Maaco paint job.

I suppose Maaco auto paint prices are similar to any other product out there. For instance, you go to fast food restaurants based on your need. Fast food restaurants are there for convenience and are very cheap. The atmosphere is obviously not something you are paying for, and either is the service. The same idea applies to their prices. When a consumer looks into Maaco's prices they are investing in a service and product that will be a temporary fix as well as a cheap job. People do not check into their prices and pay them because the paint will last forever.

My suggestion to you and anyone else is even if you have a nicer and newer vehicle, I would still purchase the cheaper version first. People, who have said their vehicles paint peeled off really fast, may have left their car in extreme environmental conditions. Or maybe their car had a weird coat of paint on originally and it affected the coat of paint Maaco did afterwards. I guess I would rather pay the $300 dollars first and see how well it lasts and works out for me, than to purchase the paint job at $1000 dollars. Who knows, I mean the same problems that occurred for some people with the $300 dollar paint job, pay occur with the $1000 dollar paint job, you never know. I would recommend you to also go online and look up consumer reviews on Maaco and their competitors. I would probably look at as many reviews as I possibly could and then take the majority views and apply that to your decision. Plus just as a reminder people sometimes have it in their head that the cheaper a product is the worst off the job will be, and that is not always true.

Paint Jobs - How Much Does it Cost to Paint? Estimating Paint Jobs

Professional Painting in Bridal Veil – Trusted Experts

Exterior house painting can make your home look great. You can change the color of your home, decks, shutters and trim to really make it "pop". You can personalize it by adding as much detail as you like, but appearance is not everything.

Painting your home is first about protection. And the best protection comes with the correct application of the paint. But, before there can be proper paint application, there has to be proper paint preparation.

To prepare your home for a fresh coat of paint it first should be cleaned thoroughly. The best method is pressure cleaning using a chlorine and TSP (trisodium phosphate) solution. Chlorine is used to kill and remove mildew from the painted surface while the TSP removes dirt, pollen, grease and other pollutants. The TSP also removes any glossy finish that will hinder proper adhesion of the new coating.

On your next exterior painting project, take the time to do it right and it will not only look great, but also last for many years. In the meantime, if you have any questions, please give us a call, we love to help.

An Exterior House Painting Story

home exterior painters

in this video by ABN Painting we are working on exterior a two-story stucco house and this is the look of the house before we started preparation work.

There's quite a bit of paint that is peeling especially around the trim a few holes in stucco.

On a back patio ceiling joint tape is missing, on the front patio ceiling there is a lot of peeling paint, metal side gate has a little bit of rust on the bottom.

We scraped any loose paint by hand and applied elastomeric patch to scraped areas to fix any hairline cracks.

To fix any larger cracks and in trim fascia we used latex caulk and after we squeezed it out of the tube using caulking gun we used the brush to spread it evenly throughout the trim.

We musked all windows using plastic and green tape.

Green tape gives approximately three days of clean removal.

If the tape is removed within three days from the windows it will not leave any residual glue.

Using green tape and 12-inch masking paper we masked off staircase and the wooden patio that will not be painted.

We masked off the unpainted block wall.

To protect the floor on the back patio we used paper around the perimeter and covered the middle witrh tarps.

After scraping loose paint near the foundation of the house we applied elastomeric patch.

The side of the house that belongs to the neighbor we covered with paper.

On the front of the house we covered with tarps all concrete surfaces.

To protect roof shingles from all spray we run a 12-inch masking paper next to the stucco and when we're ready to spray paint the second level we'll cover the rest of the shingles with tarps.

We fixed all holes in stucco using stucco mix.

On the front patio ceiling we scraped all loose paint.

Re-textured the ceiling using drywall mud and using latex caulk filled any gaps between the stucco and the drywall.

On the back patio ceiling after we applied joint tape we textured the ceiling as well.

We're sending both ceilings on the front as well as on the back before applying the primer.

To prime repaired areas on the ceilings we're using general-purpose primer ultra grip by Dunn Edwards.

It is of dark color for no specific purpose it is just leftovers from one of our previous jobs.

After we are done with priming we apply the first coat of paint of the body color.

Before spray-painting metal gate we're using an oil-based primer to cover the areas that are rusty.

After we are finished spray painting the body of the house we're using a mini roller and a brush to paint the trim fascia.

After were done with cleanup and touch-ups this is the look of the house.
