Painting Vinyl Siding - Hi everybody.

This is Mark with Discover Your Home.

Thank you for joining us.

This is our second week of live streaming, and please share with your friends or family.

Let’s talk a little bit about trends ofthings that are going on in the marketplace, what we see when we are out in the field andworking with customers.

One of the big trends on the exterior of homesare painting aluminium and vinyl siding, more specifically we are going to talk about paintingvinyl siding.

One of the big questions that I get askedis, “Hey can I paint my vinyl siding, it’s been up there 10 years, it’s faded and Inever liked the color.

” Usually those are the first couple of reasonsI asked folks is: Number one: Why do you want to paint your vinyl siding? Ok, if you want it done just make sure youare doing it for the right reason and the reason you know that it makes sense.

Usually folks tell me I hate the color ofmy house and I want to change the look of it.

Cool, I get that, no problem.

The second reason is that it’s faded, it’schalking and yes, vinyl siding does fade and it does chalk.

They may tell you that it’s maintenancefree, but it’s not fade-free.

Let’s just leave it at that.

So it will start to break down, any surfaceeven, stop and think about this ok.

Your automobile ok, one of the finest finishesout there is a car finish.

It is sprayed on, it’s heavy, and it’sthe latest technology so, It’s pretty good, so you are looking at a car 10 years downthe road and it doesn’t have that luster or the color that it was when it was brandspanking new, so your siding color is going to wear too.

How do we handle this? Let’s start with the basics, let’s getthe outside cleaned up.

First and foremost whether it’s yourselfor you are hiring a contractor to pressure wash the outside, let’s get the outsidegood and clean.

Put a mild detergent or possibly if you arehaving mold and mildew issues, something like a combination of a product called Jomax orbleach, there again read the directions, ok apply it on there, spray it on and a lot oftimes it will make the mold and mildew disappear but it does need to be agitated a little bit.

So use the correct pressure, use the correcttip, a lot of times we find that folks go out and find this brand new pressure washerand they use the wrong tip and they can almost carve their name in their siding that is kindof what I’ve seen over the years.

Take your time; let’s make good decisionswhile we are out there so hopefully these are things that can help you.

If there is something here that you are notreal sure of, please reach out to us, ask us some questions.

If we can help you, we would love to helpyou.

Now we got this clean around there and wegot it all washed off and everything and let it dry.

Now what I kind of guide folks in how, whatcolor are we going to put on there.

So we got let’s say a real light color onthere now, I’m going to recommend always stay in a kind of similar family of colors.

Let’s just say you go from white to black.

Most people don’t paint their houses blackbut if you go from white to black, The difference of how your siding expandsand contracts will differ from black paint and white paint just because darker colorsattract more heat and light than lighter colors do.

Let’s make sure we want to paint somethingssimilar, not too dramatic because that siding will expand and contract a bit different soyou could have some buckling issues.

I’m not saying you are going to but thereis always that possibility that you could.

Ok so we go ahead and we make it clean.

Let’s make sure we make a good decisionin color, I always recommend if you are going to put a color on, try to use your roof asa good marker on what you want to go with because a lot of times there are some tonesin your roof that you can find work real well with siding paints.

After we are going to go ahead and get itall cleaned up.

I want to tell you out there especially onyour North side of your home you are going to find, algae is going to show up a littlebit more so than on any other side of the house.

Obviously because moisture sits, so goingback to the cleaning stage, let’s make sure we get that cleaned up.

So going back to paint now, it’s all clean, let’s try to find a good color, there again work with your local representative at BenjaminMoore, Sherwin Williams, Glidden dealer, you know get some ideas, drive around the neighborhood.

I always tell my customers hey, drive aroundand see what you like.

Make sure if you are looking at the neighbor’shouse that the neighbor down the street has a similar roof as you do, and the window trimand the door trim so that you can kind of coordinate everything.

After we got it all cleaned, make sure weput a primer on there We can use a bonding primer; we don’t haveto but let’s make sure we put a bonding primer and then two good coats of a high qualitylatex paint to get everything nice and tight.

Always work on the shaded side and be patient.

Work top to bottom, left to right.

We keep it simple.

Hopefully this will answer some of the questionsfor you, if there is anyone out there that can really have any more questions or if wecould be of help to you, please reach out to us.

Again I’m Mark and this is Discover Your Home.

Have a good evening.

Interior House Painting - An Orderly Guide

interior painting business

In this video by ABN Painting we're doing preparation work and spray painting exterior of a stucco house and the first thing we do for prep work is we move the gravel away from the house so it doesn't get any overspray.

Pressure washing is next.

Any paint that is peeling we scrape by hand using a putty knife.

We scrape the different angles to make sure that anything that is peeling will come off.

After we're finished with scraping we're using elastomeric punch to fill all hairline cracks in stucco and we apply it with a mini roller.

There are some areas on this house where there is countless number of cracks and we have to apply the patch pretty much from the very bottom of the house all the way to the top.

To fill smaller cracks in the wood trim we use the same elastomeric patch and we apply it with a brush because the mini roller on the round surface like that would not work very well.

To fix larger cracks in the wood trim we are using MH patch and we apply it with a putty knife.

Once we're done fixing larger cracks we'll come back to this area again and will fill all remaining small cracks using latex caulk and elastomeric punch.

After we finished with all repairs this is the look of the house.

After we're done masking the surfaces that will not be painted we start by spray painting the body of the house and the walls around.

After the body of the house had the chance to dry we mask off any surfaces next the wood trim to prepare for spray painting an accent color.

We use 12 inch masking paper to cover the stucco right next to the wood trim.

We used plastic to cover the rest of the area and for all the floors we use the tarps.

To spray paint the trim who is slightly lowered the pressure in the sprayer but we're using the same size of the spray tip as for the body of the house.

Most of the time it's easier using a brush in the mini roller to paint the trim fascia by hand but on this house we masked off the roof using 12 inch masking paper and green tape and we'll spray paint the trim fascia instead.

Here we spray painting the gates on the front of the house.

When spray painting the trim around the front door we covered with plastic any plans that may get overspray.

After we're finished with touch ups and clean up this is the look of the house.

This is the guest house.

And this is the main house.
