Professional Painting in Happy Valley – Trusted Experts
Painting is an easy and less expensive job to carry out if you are able to do it yourself. All you need is to follow the interior painting step by step process given in the sections below.
The first step is to have the area selected. As a beginner, use the room, that you can use for practice first. The room which is not seen often. For example, your laundry room. Choose the colors and paint sheen. Make your selection according to the area you want to paint. For instance, for your laundry room get paint that is easily washable and also that holds well in the areas where there is moisture. Semi-gloss paint would be the best choice here. Do research when you do not have any color in mind. Look into interior magazines and skim pages with colors that appeal to you. You may also visit a paint store and look at the color pallets they provide. Buy a few samples of paint. Apply a sample on the wall, wait until it is dry and see if that is the color you had in mind.
Start to paint walls once the ceiling is dry. Do all the cutting in first working with a brush. Use a high quality brush to make a job easier. Then proceed to painting the rest of the area with a roller.
To avoid spilling of paint on the floors, cover all the area that is being painted very carefully. Remember that painting is always the easy part. It is the preparation work that counts the most.
House Painting - Correcting Problems
In this video by ABN Painting we are workingon exterior of a stucco house and this is the look of the house before we started preparationwork.
We pressure washed the house a day earlierand the following day we strt our prep work by scraping any peeling paint by hand using a puttyknife.
In some of the areas where the peeling ofthe paint is excessive we are using 12 in masking paper that will catch most of theloose paint chips and that will help us a lot during the clean up.
After we done with scraping loose paint wemask all the windows.
Using elastomeric patch we fill any hairlinecracks in stucco and we apply it with a mini roller.
To fill cracks in the wood trim we are usinga combination of different materials.
We are using MH patch to fill any larger cracks.
To fill any gaps between wood and stucco weare using latex caulk and after we squeezed it out of the tube using caulking gun we usebrush to spread caulk evenly.
And any remaining hairline cracks we are fixingusing elastomeric patch.
There are a few pieces of wood on this housethat are impossible to fix and this is one of the pieces that we are going to replace.
It takes effort as it is nailed to the woodboard that is behind stucco.
After we removed the old piece we used pliersto straighten out nails that were used to hold it and we are nailing down new pieceusing the same nails.
We are fixing wood pieces that were not ina completely terrible shape and for larger cracks we are using MH patch and for smallercracks a combination of elastomeric patch and caulk.
There are a few areas near the foundationof the house that we are going to fix using cement mix.
We apply the first coat of cement mix, thanuse a wet sponge to make it smooth, then apply the second coat, and use a wet sponge againto give cement desired look.
On top of the house where the stucco meetsthe roof there are a lot of cracks and we are going to fix those using a combinationof latex caulk and elastomeric patch.
The stucco wall above the pool we fixed usingcement mix.
And then we run 12 in masking paper to protectthe pool from over spray.
Unpainted decorative brick on top we maskusing painter's tape.
There is another area of the wall that wefixed using cement mix.
Usually for stucco walls we use stucco mixbut on this house because of a very smooth finish cement mix works a little better becauseof its finer finish.
This is the same are after repairs.
On the back of the house we masked the grillarea using paper and tape.
On the back patio we used plastic to coverthe tile and we used tarps to cover remaining area.
This is the front of the house.
To fill any hairline cracks we used elastomericpatch.
For some areas near foundation that were damagedwe used cement mix.
And for the wood trim we used combinationof MH patch, elastomeric patch and latex caulk.
This pieces of decorative wood facing backyard.
We fixed any pieces that were fixable andreplaced pieces that were rotted.
This is the front of the house.
After all preparation work has been completednow the house is ready for spray painting.
And this is the look of the house and thewall around just before we started spraying.
We use the same color for the body of thehouse and the wall that goes around the house.
After we are done with the main color we areusing an accent color for any wood surfaces.
Just before painting the doors we dust themoff to make sure they get a smooth finish.
We start by spray painting all the edges.
And then we go back and paint the remainingarea.
